A few weeks before Christmas, I had arranged to meet with Shaun Belcher, a lecturer in visual communications (as far as I understand), whom my own tutor suggested that I should talk to in regards to my project (I will post updated details on this very shortly). Long-story short, I had shown him my drawings that I did on large scale back in my Fine Art course, mainly these two:
Dream Trip, 2011
In Extremis, 2010
Dream Trip on display at DMU, Fletcher
Shaun was very helpful and enthusiastic for my case, and pointed me out to a number of good sources, and even sent me a link to his own reflective journal. Most importantly, he had lent me a book called The Fundamentals of Digital Art, by Richard Colson. I have been reading this over the Christmas period in order to inform my own project, and probably come to a better, reflective understanding as to what I really want out of it. The book gives a thorough and yet brief outlook on digital art's development and history, how we use it for responses and data, the multitude of coding involved and how they are applied in numerous aesthetic ways. I will be drawing more on this book throughout this new year.
